Graphic novels in classroom
Teachers may ask Deaf students to read the graphic novels, and can distribute to them guides to assist the students to learn the history and experience of Chinese immigrants effectively. Also, the teachers will discuss with the students some critical questions, and lead the students to gain deep knowledge toward the Chinese immigrants. Similarly, the students may set up reading circle roles, such as who is responsible for summarizing; another is responsible for making a timeline based on their selected graphic novels. In addition, the students may develop role-play based on the graphic novels. These actions will stimulate the Deaf students to realize their lives are connected with history and experience of children immigrants, and the students will be more interested in exploring children immigrants.

Additionally, the visual method used will be able to attract the students’ interest, and allow them to be curious to explore the experience and history of Chinese immigrants. Similarly, most graphic novels reveal critical and potential meaning behind the comic content such as American Born Chinese, and it will assist the students to learn how to analyze and inquire the characters, plot, setting, theme, opinion, and supporting details critically.
